Community Relations: Our daily interaction with virtually every department provides the best overall view of how a TV station works. Leave the department with important contacts, references and a resume tape of several TV shows and PSAs that you produced. Here's how most interns sum up that experience: Interns: Work with both producer and department heads to: Write Community Bulletin Board voice-overs, write and produce Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and manage PSA inventory. Help coordinate events. As Associate Producer of St. Louis Agenda, weekly current/public affairs show, you'll produce shows from concept to control room. Imagination, logic, a journalist's ability to dig out facts and key players on "hot" issues, and good writing are the qualifiers.

Creative Services Department: TV's Glitz and Glamour -- often the result of our long days and hard work! Promotion, Design and the KIDS Club are departments within Creative Services. Promotion: Ratings and revenues hinge on the effectiveness of our creative ideas, writing and execution. Interns: Work with senior producer, public relations specialist and writer-producer. Write program and movie synopses for daily voice-overs and coordinate all aspects of daily audio reels. Write and produce movie promos, radio scripts and episodics. Assist in preparing print ads. Design: To paraphrase Shakespeare, presentation is the thing to catch the eye of the "king" -- viewers and advertisers. Graphics can make or break a promo, spot, print ad or collateral materials. Print Design Interns: Create promotional ads for newspaper and television guides, stationery, monthly newsletter, P.O.P. materials, brochures and countercards for sales promotions. Good conceptual and computer skills plus the ability to follow directions qualify you. Familiarity with Illustrator, PhotoShop and Flash are a plus. On-Air Design Interns: Create on-air promotions and technical support, stills and animation through Paintbox. PM Interns provide technical support for evening news (over-the-shoulder graphics and maps) all under the supervision of one of the nation's top 10 artists. Designers with fine arts skills qualify.

News Room: When you show the drive and willingness, you leave the program with first-hand experience at news writing, interviewing, pre-production techniques, assignment editing; and you'll have the chance to put together your own packages. Interns: Work with assignment desk, research stories, follow-up with police and fire departments, etc., field produce, line up and conduct interviews, write and go out with reporters. Work with producer, field produce, write, assist on pre-production for 9 pm newscast, learn character generator techniques, go out with reporters, run prompter. Sports Interns: Work with Sports Director on tape filing system, editing highlights, field interviews and finding leads and researching hot stories.

Sales and Marketing: The "bread winners." Sales Department Interns: Work with local or national sales manager and research director to learn rating and qualitative research, selling and interdepartmental relationships. In Local, write sales proposals and presentations, support the local sales staff and get the opportunity to go on sales calls. In National, support the national sales manager, process orders, deal with national reps and help coordinate local value-added promotions.
