At a time when many businesses are downsizing and laying workers off one Missouri company is actually expanding and looking to hire dozens of employees.

The 54th Street Bar & Grill is opening up it's 6th St. Louis Area location next month in Sunset Hills and is looking to hire around 110 positions. Despite a weak economy the Kansas City based company says business has been great.

"So we're going to keep adding restaurants as long as they do well and so far they have." Benji Marcum - 54th Street Bar & Grill

Since they began advertising for jobs last month Benji Marcum says they've already received 1,200 applications. Two years ago at this point in the hiring process that number would be closer to 200. Those applying are coming from all segments of the workforce.

"A lot of people who have been in the business world and got laid off and are doing what they did to get through college." Benji Marcum

Recent college graduates like Callie Stilwell still find it difficult to land a job, even with a master's degree.

"Most people aren't hiring and so many of my friends are looking for jobs too, so great opportunity for us." Callie Stillwell

Marcum says the company will continue to take applications for another week or so. The 54th Street Bar and Grill plans to open another location in Florissant sometime next year.
