ALTON, IL (KPLR) - It could be the granddaddy of all private estate auctions in the history of Alton, Illinois. That's the word from those involved in liquidating the memories that belonged to a prominent surgeon and his wife.

"We've been in the auction business 23 years and never have walked into one of this quality, of this quantity," John Adams of Jersey County Auctions told News 11.

Adams will be selling the treasure trove of memories this weekend at the Alton-Wood River sportsman's club in Godfrey. A second sale will be held the following weekend. The two dates show just how much stuff there is.

It all belongs to the late Doctor Gordon Moore, Alton's first board-certified surgeon. The 700-acre park in Alton bears his name.

He passed away 23 years ago. His widow, Mary, is 90 and still lives in the Alton area.
