A budget battle is heating up in Caseyville, Illinois. It could mean lay offs for the police department's seven dispatchers. Jobs are at stake as well a hometown dispatch center. The Village of Caseyville here is facing a budget deficit of around $400,000. The plan to shut down the dispatch center and transfer dispatching to the main dispatch center for St. Clair County in Belleville would save about $200,000 a year.

It was standing room only Wednesday night as Caseyville village trustees held their regular monthly meeting.

The dispatching issue was not on the agenda, but people still came out in force.

Many of them want the dispatch center here to stay open.
