( KPLR ) - A budget battle is heating up in Caseyville, Illinois. It could mean lay offs for the police department's seven dispatchers. Jobs are at stake as well a hometown dispatch center. The Village of Caseyville here is facing a budget deficit of around $400,000. The plan to shut down the dispatch center and transfer dispatching to the main dispatch center for St. Clair County in Belleville would save about $200,000 a year.

It was standing room only Wednesday night as Caseyville village trustees held their regular monthly meeting.

The dispatching issue was not on the agenda, but people still came out in force.
