BARNHART, MO ( KPLR ) - Two Jefferson County Sheriff's cars and one Pevely Police department vehicle were broken into overnight Thursday into Friday morning. The cars were parked in the Village of Jefferson Subdivision and the Parkton Subdivision in Barnhart, MO. Items taken included a shotgun, camera, and several other items. The thief got into the vehicles by punching out or removing the door locks.

Jefferson County Detectives and Deputies investigated and identified a suspect, Scott Smith. Smith was located and all the stolen property taken from the vehicles was recovered. Smith, 19, from Barnhart, MO, was arrested and booked at the Jefferson County Jail. He was charged with three counts of Property Damage 1st, two counts of Stealing Over, and one count of Stealing a firearm.

Smith remains in custody with no bond.
