CREVE COEUR, MO ( KPLR ) - A controversial re-development project in Creve Coeur is suddenly off. This is the result of a very vocal opposition conformed by neighbors who live next to Delmar Gardens.

Residents expect to protest outside the City Hall, and also plan to be vocal during the public hearing inside. They feel this is only a delay, not an end, and for them, this is a fight still worth making.

The multi-million dollar project would have replaced the current Delmar Gardens Nursing Home that sits in the Southwest corner of Olive and 270. The plan called for an office building and a parking garage to sprout where the care center is now located.

When the idea first hit the planning and zoning commission, residents turned out in full to voice their disagreement. Their worries were that there would be more traffic, crime and overall nuisance to their neighborhood which sits just south of the property.

The commission sent it on the City Council which was supposed to take it up for the first time with a public hearing. However, after several requests for delays, a letter arrived saying Delmar Gardens decided to withdraw the project for at least one year.

Paul Langdon, the Director of Community Development said "At this point we don't know…applicant has withdrawn the project from consideration."

Delmar Gardens' attorney explained that the neighborhood opposition played a part in this decision, but it is not an end to the redevelopment. Still, neighbors plan to loudly voice their opposition Monday night.
