Tracy Bostic with Act Now Rescue says police called them for help after discovering the German Shepherds living in squalor in a north St. Louis County backyard.
"They were all outside, Bostic says. There was some newspapers and stuff up to block rain, but they were pretty much all living together."
The owner of the home had apparently been trying to breed the animals, but every one of the animals is covered in sores and infections"
"It shouldn't happen to any breed, Bostic says. "But when it happens to a pure bred dog that people pay a lot of money for and really respect the breed
The rescue group says the challenge now is socializing the dogs and letting them realize that there are humans they can trust.
"It's going to take some special people to let them feel safe."
