DUPO, Ill. (AP) - A Vietnam War veteran from southwestern Illinois is getting recognition for his service from none other than the nation's commander in chief.

Fifty-nine-year-old Kenny Euge of rural St. Clair County, near Dupo, on Tuesday will be among 86 surviving members of a military group that'll get the Presidential Unit Citation at the White House.

President Barack Obama is to make the presentation to the Alpha Troop, First Squadron, the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in the White House's Rose Garden.

The citation recognizes Alpha Troop's valor and determination in rescuing a company of American soldiers who were ambushed by North Vietnamese troops in late March 1970.

The award is the highest honor the nation can bestow on a military unit.
