Ruth Carver, a McKee descendant, says "I just wish I had gotten interested some 20-, 30-years ago." The small cemetery is shared by the McKee and Highly families, which is now owned by the Murray family. A truck garage now stands next to the cemetery.
A survey paid for by Charlie Sears, who describes himself as a friend of the cemetery, says the garage's driveway is over a section of the sacred land. Larry Murray says if that's the case, it wasn't done intentionally.
Charlie, marked off the corners with fence posts, but somebody stole them. Chief James Bullock, Desloge police department, "We don't know who moved them. They disappeared.
Volunteers plan to finance a $2-thousand dollar fence to outline the cemetery. But that would block the doors to the Murray's garage. The Carver family is planning to move ahead with a plan to fence in the cemetery. As to graves being desecrated, Ruth Carver says, "we know there's missing stones." Chief Bullock, "since desecrating a grave is a criminal offense", the chief wonders why a complaint has yet to be filed.
Ron Highly of Lake View, Arkansas is due to be in Desloge for Monday's city council meeting; after which, a formal complaint will be filed.
