Elizabeth Williams spent her summer on the St. Louis woman's football team defending the end-zone from opponents. Now, she'll move from the football field - to the battlefield.

If the St. Louis Slam can win on Saturday and advance to the W.F.A. championship game they will have to play without one of their team captains. Elizabeth Williams will be deployed to Iraq on Tuesday. She is no stranger to being deployed.

"1996, I was deployed to Bosnia. My first deployment. In 2003, I was deployed to Iraq, and I was there about a year. Safely, I made it back, and now I'm here, ready for Round 3." Elizabeth Williams

But, round three happens to fall in the middle of the Woman's Football Association playoffs. If the Slam win Saturday's night's semifinal game against Jacksonville, Williams' deployment will make her miss the championship game.

"I leave on Tuesday. It was a little depressing knowing that I helped the team get this far, and I won't be able to compete in the game in the championship." Elizabeth Williams

But if the Slam do win Saturday, Williams will be the last one to call the circumstance bittersweet.

"No, as long as the team makes it, and I'm part of the team. As long as they go and give their best, I'm one-hundred percent satisfied." Elizabeth Williams

"She's still working hard and pumping us up to keep us going so we can send her a ring to Iraq or Kuwait or wherever she'll be." Danielle Cullen - St. Louis Slam Tailback

Like her teammates, Williams knows her near future is full of ups and downs. Williams teammates see their captain as a source of inspiration going into the rest of their season.

Williams last game for the Slam is Saturday night at Oakville High School. If the Slam beats Jacksonville, they advance to the W.F.A. championship game in New Orleans. For the Slam, she plays defensive line, in the army she manages convoys in and out of Iraq.
