GILLESPIE, IL (KPLR) - Students head back to school Wednesday in Gillespie, Illinois, after a series of events forced students out of two buildings. First, the new elementary school in Benld had to be shut down after it was discovered it was built over an abandoned mine.

Then a tornado blew through in May, damaging buildings at the middle and high schools. Now the high school students will arrive early in the morning and have classes until noon. At noon, the elementary kids show up and go to class through the afternoon.
