A 9-year-old Affton boy is almost single-handedly staging a fund-raiser on Saturday to buy a head stone for his father.

"I really love you with all my heart. You are the best." Ronnie Scheper - Son

That's part of a letter young Ronnie Scheper wrote in honor of his father. It was read at the funeral for Ronald Scheper which was held in the family's home of Cape Girardeau where he was laid to rest with his mother and two brothers. Scheper, who lived alone near House Springs, succumbed to a lung disease and his son, who lives with his mother, remembers talking with his dad the day before he died.

"I talked to him on the phone. He said he wasn't feeling good so I said I'm going to come up tomorrow night." Ronnie Scheper

Ronnie's grandfather and other family members in Cape Girardeau managed to pay for the funeral and burial. But, they could not come up with some $1,500 dollars for a bronze grave marker. So, the determined fourth grader at Bayless School decided to go it alone.

Ronnie and his mom, Linda, will hold a car wash and barbecue Saturday at Linda's father's Auto Shop in the 5300 block of Heege.

"This was all his idea. Everything that we are doing he wanted to do 100%. He's the one who came up with the whole idea." Linda Winterbauer

Just like the letter that Ronnie signed: "Dad, i love you with all my heart."

The fund-raiser is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. A kind of garage sale of donated items will be sold, beginning at 6:30am Saturday morning.
