Laura Hurt, of Rebuilding Together St. Louis, explains, "We're repairing floors we're repairing plumbing we're doing electrical work we've got over 50 volunteers here today."
The group Rebuilding Together St. Louis is partnering with HGTV for a total renovation of the home on Windsor Place. It is the home of Desert Storm Veteran Hence Forland. He has been opening his doors to vets for 15 years.
Recently, Forland won a home makeover in an HGTV contest, "These guys served their country I served my country for 27 years and I think its my responsibility to stay out here and try to help as much as I can."
As a crew from HGTV shoots the makeover, local contractors vendors and volunteers, including Rams football players and cheerleaders, are pulling together to help veterans make the transition back to civilian life.
Forland explains, "It makes me feel so awesome with everybody coming together. It's wonderful that everybody is helping out the homeless veterans."
The renovation of the Windsor Transitional Home includes new windows, new doors, new insulation and plumbing and electrical upgrades.
HGTV and Rebuilding Together and their army of volunteers hope to have the work completed by Tuesday of next week.
