Area Police Cracking Down This Holiday Weekend
ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - Police on both sides of the river will be out in force over the weekend cracking down on suspected drunk drivers. Officers are saturating certain areas where motorists are known for driving drunk. Berkeley Police Chief Frank McCall says officers have already started their patrols, "the problem that we see is that you have your average citizen that's on the way home from the family get together they become a victim of a drunk driver."

The Independence Day weekend is typically one of the deadliest. In 2007, 243 people were killed in nearly 8,000 traffic crashes.

The Missouri Highway Patrol, Illinois State Police, and other local agencies have similar patrols planned this weekend.
