Ian Cole has only been practicing with a yo-yo for five years. He's already won three state championships, placed 4th at nationals, and 9th in the world.

A simple search of Ian Cole on YouTube.com reveals over 7 different video results.

"It's pretty cool. When I first started yo-yoing, I'd see these other yo-yoers on the internet, and I thought, 'Man, I want to be one of those guys someday.' And then, after I started competing and doing good, my videos started getting on the internet." Ian Cole - Three Time Yo-yo State Champion

All this after only a little over 5 years of practicing with a yo-yo. Those hours and years of practice have led to Ian competing in his specialty, the "off-string" style, where the yo-yo and string are not attached.

"The difficulty is a lot higher than the other styles because there's simpler tricks but they're a lot harder to do. You have to throw the yo-yo up and catch in. In other styles, you don't have to catch the yo-yo after you throw it ten feet in the air." Ian Cole

Now, Ian is heading to California on October 3rd for the national championships, where he hopes to place better than his previous highest finish. In the meantime, Ian will continue using his special skill to entertain and educate children.

Ian is an honor role student at Lutheran High, and captain of the baseball team as well. After nationals, Ian plans to take a break from competing to focus on attending either Kansas or Kansas State for college to study architecture.
