The son of a southwestern Illinois man found shot to death after a house fire has been indicted in his father's murder. A Jersey County grand jury handed down an indictment Wednesday charging Mark Prough with first-degree murder. The indictment alleges Prough shot his father, 70-year-old Dennis Prough, in the chest on or about July 20.
Dennis Prough's body was found in the fire that consumed his home near Kane, about 40 miles north of St. Louis. The Illinois State Fire Marshal has labeled the cause of the fire "arson under investigation."
A message left seeking comment from Mark Prough's attorney hasn't been returned.
Prough is set to be arraigned on Aug. 10. He's being held at the Jersey County Jail on $1 million bail.
