Pevely police were stunned when D.N.A. results were returned in a rape case. Detective say the results showed the suspect was not only responsible for the rape of a 68 year old woman but also the sexual assault of a 14 year old girl. Twenty year old Lee McCoy is behind bars, charged in both cases. His bond is set at one million dollars cash only.
Fox 2 first reported on the elderly rape case last year. Police say the suspect left behind a hat. After the story aired, tips came into police and people implicated McCoy. He submitted to the D.N.A. tests and results finally came back last week.
The assault on the teen took place two years before the 68 year old woman was raped in her carport. McCoy lived only a block or two away from each crime location. Police say if there was one quintillion people, McCoy would be the only match. One quintillion is a 1 followed by 18 zeroes. One billion has nine zeros.
Residents are relieved police have made an arrest.
