The Home Of Popeye Celebrates Cartoon Creator
Chester, Illinois is buzzing about Popeye the sailor man. It's the hometown of the sailor's creator and they are celebrating with a picnic and new statutes.

The Popeye comic strip started in 1919 by Elzie Segar. There is a new Popeye comic book out this year to celebrate our favorite spinach eating pal. But only 5,000 are in production.

There are also two new granite statutes being placed in Chester Illinois. One of Castor Oyl, Olive Oyl's brother, and the other of Bernice the whiffle hen.

By 2020, there will be a total of 16 statues around town which includes the famous bronze of Popeye built in 1977.
