Students Sit In For Seat Belts
AFFTON, MO (KPLR) - Affton High School students spent the last 24 hours in their cars. It wasn't a protest but instead a plead to fellow students to always wear a seatbelt when they're in a car. The week long event is called "Bucklefest."

Studies show that 62 percent of teenagers don't use their seat belts. In a recent 3 year period 410 teenagers died on Missouri highways, 78% of them were not wearing seatbelts. The students take part in a number of safety events including checking cars as they arrive in the morning to ensure students are buckled up. Those students that aren't buckled-up could be forced to pay a fine or wear a vest that reminds everyone to buckle up.

Students believe their efforts are paying off, they see more and more classmates with seatbelts fastened as the week progresses.
