ST. CHARLES, MO (KPLR11.com) - Traffic is moving at a normal pace on Interstate 70 in St. Charles. Eastbound traffic was backed up for nearly four miles earlier Thursday morning after a police chase ended in the left lane of the highway. Police used "stop sticks," spiked devices that pop the tires on fleeing cars, to stop a pickup truck they'd been chasing from O'Fallon, Missouri.

Police say it began when the men were spotted allegedly breaking into cars in the O'Fallon area around 5:00 a.m. When police tried to stop them, the three ran. The chase made its way onto I-70, with officers pursuing all the way to the 5th Street exit in St. Charles. It was there police had put down the "stop sticks" which disabled the truck.

All three men then tried to make a run for it. Two were caught, but police were still searching for the third Thursday morning.

It took almost an hour for police to clear the area and tow away the pickup. Once the scene was cleared, traffic returned to normal speeds in a matter of minutes.
