MOLINE ACRES, MO ( KPLR )—
A thief in north St. Louis County is making off with some homeowners' address signs placed in their front yards. In Duke Drive just off Chambers Road, neighbors started to notice they were missing last week. Homeowner Betty Smith is frustrated and angry, since a thief swiped her address sign from her front yard. The sign was a gift from her now deceased husband, and its price tag is about $60, "I don't know what happened. It just disappeared."Her sign is not the only one that has been stolen. Her next door neighbor's address sign was also stolen, along with several others on the block. One homeowner believes the bandit may be taking them, because they're made of metal.
Smith's husband bought the address sign so if an emergency happened, crews could easily find their house. That was very important to him.
"I have notified the Moline Acres police department about the incident," Betty said.
Moline Acres police say they were unaware of the thefts, but they promise to investigate once the crime is reported.
