Officials say it happened a little before 7 on Thursday night. Attendees of the shower were on the deck behind the house at 2713 Autumn Run. They were posing for a photograph when officials say the deck gave way. Injuries ranged from minor cuts and bruises to possible broken bones, according to Metro West Assistant Chief Ed Beirne.
Six of the victims, all adult women, were taken to St. John's Hospital. Two others went to Missouri Baptist, and one to Barnes Jewish.
Neighbors say it's unsettling to see victim after victim taken out of their subdivision in ambulances. The hilly area in West St. Louis County is made up of predominantly two story houses, most of which have decks.
Firefighters say it's far too early to determine what may have caused this particular deck to collapse.
According to St. Louis County records, the home is owned by Larry Patey. Patey is a former professional hockey player who played 12 seasons in the NHL. Most of them were with the Blues.
